The goal is not simply to stop an unwanted behaviour, but to understand the mind that produces it.

SEVA Recovery is recognised as North America's leading provider of peer support recovery for physicians, medical professionals, first responders, and law enforcement. That distinction was earned quietly, one person at a time, and the same standard of support is now open to anyone ready to make lasting, lifelong change.

A quiet path winding through bare deciduous trees, soft mist in the distance

Recovery asks for the same care and patience the seasons ask of a forest.

Chapter 02, The Practice

Two languages describe the same mind. We teach them together.

i.

Philosophy first

Lasting change does not come from any single model or program. We integrate evidence-based behavioural science with the philosophy of non-theistic Buddhism to help people understand the causes of suffering, and develop the skills required to change, permanently.

Methodologies serve the philosophy, not the other way around.

ii.

Two languages, one mind

Cognitive-behavioural science and Buddhist philosophy describe the same mind in different vocabularies. One arrived at through the laboratory, the other through twenty-five centuries of first-person inquiry. Each becomes clearer in the company of the other.

Presented as practical psychological tools, never as religious teaching.

iii.

Peer support, one to one

Every practitioner brings both professional training and lived experience of the very patterns our clients are moving through. That combination creates a rapport and honesty not available in conventional clinical settings.

Round-the-clock support you will not find elsewhere.

The paradox is that hedonism, the pursuit of pleasure for its own sake, leads to anhedonia, which is the inability to enjoy pleasure of any kind.

Chapter 03, The Services

Three individual programs, one continuous practice.

  1. Substance and Behavioural Addiction

A structured arc for those ready to understand the mind behind the substance or behaviour, and to change, permanently.

    Read the program
  2. Anxiety and OCD Peer Support Therapy

For the exhausting cycles of intrusive thought, rumination, perfectionism, and the relentless self-pressure that keeps a person stuck in a loop.

    Read the program
  3. Walk-Therapy

Two people, a path, a conversation that moves. To the casual observer, it looks like two friends out for a walk.

SEVA Recovery also delivers workshops for organizations, first-responder agencies, healthcare teams, schools, and community groups.

Workshops and community

Chapter 04, The Ethics

On finances

Cost is decided case by case, and we will not allow finances to become a barrier to support.

On fit

If our support is not right for you, we will tell you plainly and point you toward what is.

On practitioners

Every practitioner carries lived experience of the patterns our clients are moving through, alongside their professional training.

On what we are not

SEVA Recovery is not a 12-step program. We embody the concepts and principles of Recovery Dharma as a supplementary group practice we encourage clients to explore.

Chapter 05, The Door
